Warriors Future Leaders Event - 4/17/12
April 17, 2012
As a part of the Warriors Future Leaders program, 20 students from Skyline High School were given a tour of the Warriors front office on April 17.
The vist included a Q/A session with Warriors guard Charles Jenkins and forward Dominic McGuire.
The students assembled in the conference room where Warriors Radio Broadcaster Tim Roye introduced them to the various Warriors personnel they would be hearing from.
The speakers included Assistant General Manager/Vice President of Basketball Operations Bob Myers
Vice President of Public Relations Raymond Ridder
Executive Vice President of Sales and Partnership Development Ben Shapiro
Vice President of Ticket Sales & Services Brandon Schneider
Vice President & General Counsel David Kelly
Vice President of New Franchise Development Jim Weyermann
and Assistant Coach Jerry DeGregorio.
The speakers gave the students an idea of the careers there are within the sports industry by discussing their professions, passions and day-to-day responsibilities.
Following the assembly, the students were treated to a tour of the Warriors front office by Director of Facilities Maytheni Allen.
During the tour, the students had the opportunity to interact with all of the Warriors front office employees, from departments such as Marketing, Ticket Services, Game Operations, Finance, Public Relations, Broadcasting, and Partnership Development.
They even had a surprise visit from Head Coach Mark Jackson.
The students also got to tour the teams training facility
and took pictures with players they bumped into along the way.
After the tour was over, the students headed back into the conference room for a special treat.
Warriors guard Charles Jenkins and forward Dominic McGuire were waiting to talk to them about their own journeys to the NBA, the educational paths they followed and the hard work it took for them to reach such a high level in their careers.
Charles and Dominic also handed out some giveaways, including a Warriors business card holder to start the students off on their networking challenge.
At the end of the question and answer session, Charles and Dominic posed for a photo with the students.
The students left with a better understanding of what goes on behind the scenes of their favorite sports franchise. Special thanks to Oakland Unified School District Career Readiness Program for helping make this event a huge success.
