SACRAMENTO, Calif. Sacramento Kings Majority Owner Vivek Ranadivé has been nominated for Street & Smith's Sports Business Award’s “Sports Executive of the Year” (http://bit.ly/1iwziJ0). Launched in 2008, the awards were established by SportsBusiness Journal and SportsBusiness Daily to celebrate and recognize leaders for excellence and outstanding achievement in the business of sports.
“It is truly an honor to be recognized among such esteemed peers,” said Ranadivé, “I want to thank the Kings fans, as none of our success would be possible without their unrivaled passion and support. When my partners and I purchased the Kings in 2013, I was immediately humbled by the fans’ dedication. And today we’re on track to truly build a 21st century franchise, powered by innovative technologies, an expansive global reach and a deep commitment to serving the community. This nomination is a nod to the power of NBA 3.0 and all who are contributing to make it a reality.”
In March 2013, Ranadivé led an ownership group that purchased the Sacramento Kings after being unanimously approved by the National Basketball Association’s Board of Governors. Since becoming the team’s chairman, Ranadivé has focused on implementing his NBA 3.0 strategy: expanding the Kings global brand, utilizing cutting-edge technology to enhance the fan experience, and acting as a positive agent of change in the community.
Since Ranadivé acquired the team, the Kings business is at the top of the league in nearly every category including attendance growth, ticket sales and sponsorship growth. Notably, they have also committed $2 million to organizations and over 1,000 hours volunteering in the Sacramento region.
The winner will be announced at a ceremony on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 in New York City.
