Utah Jazz and Mountain America Credit Union ‘Pass It Along’ to Boys & Girls Clubs of South Valley
Program to Award $5,000 to the Organization
SALT LAKE CITY (March 14, 2014) – The Utah Jazz and Mountain America Credit Union today announced the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Valley (BGCSV) as the fourth recipient of ‘Pass It Along,’ a new program featuring fan nomination opportunities that will award a total of $25,000 to five local charitable organizations. The program is part of Mountain America and the Utah Jazz’s shared commitment to community outreach.
In recognition of its significant and ongoing contributions to children and families, BGCSV will be presented with a $5,000 donation during the Jazz home game on Friday, March 14. Jazz forward/center Derrick Favors and Mountain America Executive Vice President Marshall Paepke will help present the check to the organization.
“We are so grateful to be recognized and honored as a recipient of the ‘Pass It Along’ program,” said Bob Dunn, executive director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Valley. “As the oldest and largest Boys & Girls Club in the state of Utah, the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Valley serves over 1,100 youth every day in our after-school and child care programs. With the support of organizations like the Utah Jazz and Mountain America Credit Union, we will be able to deepen our impact with these young people.”
For 47 years, BGCSV has provided young people what they need and want most: adults who respect and listen to them; a safe environment where they can have fun and be themselves; and interesting, constructive activities that channel youthful energy into challenging pursuits. BGCSV has nearly 3,000 registered members and offers 11 age-appropriate programs each year. Clubs are located in Murray and Midvale, and additional programs operate after school at elementary schools in Midvale, Kearns, West Jordan and Sandy. Many of the organizations’ members come from at-risk environments, and BGCSV work tirelessly to ensure that success, hope and opportunity is within reach of every youth and family that enters its doors.
‘Pass It Along’ gives Jazz fans the opportunity to help select the winning organizations via an online nomination process. By logging on to www.utahjazz.com/passitalong, fans may nominate the local charitable organization that they feel goes above and beyond to give back to the community. In addition to the $5,000 donation, each organization selected receives a special visit from the Utah Jazz, tickets to a game and in-arena recognition.
