Jazz Partners with Deseret News on Special Educational Section in Print on Feb. 25
SALT LAKE CITY (February 24, 2014) – The Utah Jazz and the Deseret News’ Newspapers in Education program are once again teaming up on a Classroom Connections publication to provide more than 400,000 local youth and families with valuable health and wellness information. The special section titled “Get Fit, Stay Active” will be distributed to nearly 300 local schools and will run online and within the Deseret News print edition tomorrow, Feb. 25.
With support from Fresh Market, the 12-page spread features an inside look at how Jazz players live active, healthy lifestyles, along with providing fun fitness and nutrition tips for kids and families. Participating schools will also have access to an interactive electronic version of the section, enabling students to learn more about each Jazz player. Through the year-round Jazz Fit program, the team and its players strive to encourage fans to make healthy living a priority by hosting clinics and participating in the league’s annual NBA FIT Live Healthy Week.
“We love being able to partner with the Utah Jazz — especially in this effort that encourages the youth of our community to take action to keep fit, healthy and happy,” said Paul Edwards, editor of the Deseret News. “Utahns love their home team and we appreciate how much the Jazz give back to the community.”
As part of a shared commitment to education, the Jazz and the Deseret News have collaborated on the Newspapers in Education program for nearly 20 years. Past sections have focused on other important social issues affecting youth, including bullying, child safety and drug use prevention.
